Tips on improving your live sound engineering techniques

How Can You Improve on Your Live Sound Engeeing?

Despite using state of the art equipment, having a lead singer who hits an amazing falsetto, and an amazing guitarist who slashes all the right chords, the crowd may still not find your concert enjoyable. Why? Because music is an art, a composite of both vocal and instrumental sound and as such, it must have a clear technique that captivates our audience.

Your sound needs to be clear so as to evoke the positive emotions from the audience. This can only be attained by manipulating the equipment and sound in a particular way. This is what a live sound technician does, applying seasoned sound engineering techniques that stabilize the harmonies to suit the event.

Whether you are a beginner or seasoned techhnician, here are some basic sound engineering tips on improving your techniques:

1. Learn how to play an instrument:

The best way to learn how to do something is to start doing it. Learning to play an instrument means understanding exactly what is needed to build it’s acoustic during a live event. Doing this helps you experience and understand first hand, what is required to project quality sound and how to achieve it.

2. Reset the board

This is a basic step that holds a lot of weight. Equalizing will be attainable if the board is reset. Starting off with a board that was set for a different gig means creating noise that can be avoided.

3. Listen:

Step away from the equipment and listen. This is the most effective means to attaining clarity. Your knowledge of acoustics and skills can only be improved if you clearly understand what needs to be done.

4. Directional cues:

Ensure everyone involved with the production understands the directional cues. Comprehending these cues ensures the event runs smoothly.Team work will make the dream work if everyone is synchronized.

5. Treat each instrument:

In order to improve your techniques, one of the tips is to ensure all instruments and voices are of quality, allowing them to be amplified.Live sound also calls for keen preperation and set-up before the actual event commences.

Avoid tweaking and correcting faults during the event. Always be on time and most importantly, listen. If you would like to learn more about these techniques or are interested in a career in being an engineer why not enroll at ADMI for a sound engineering course?
