Digital Media Incubator

The Digital Media Incubator is designed in collaboration with Goethe-Institut, Jenga CCI, and the GIZ to mentor upcoming digital artists to create and distribute their work to online audiences. The pandemic has accelerated digital adoption and shifted audiences to digital platforms, this presents a high market potential for your music, podcast, or animated content. 

We’re looking for podcasters, music artists, 2D animators, music producers, and sound engineers who want to be part of this exciting program exploring new markets and opportunities in the digital economy.

This 6-month part-time program will incubate 60 participants in total and will involve one-on-one sessions, masterclasses, and peer mentorship forums. You’ll collaborate with other artists to produce at least one cultural product that will be published online. 

Call for applications has closed. 

A stipend covering the living wage will be provided to all incubator participants.

During selection, preference shall be given to applicants most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Music Production & Sound Engineering Incubator

Join 15 producers and beatmakers to create fresh, disruptive new sounds that will engage online audiences. Each of you will be paired with a music artist in the incubator and together, you’ll create your first single. Sound engineering applicants will also support the podcasters and music artists during their live performances at the end of the project.

Eligibility

Interested applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Over 21 years of age
  • Proficiency in music production software(Logic, Protools, Ableton)
  • Basic knowledge of working with DAW’s
  • Ability to use a midi keyboard

Music Artist Development Incubator

Join 15 upcoming artists in an artist development program where you’ll learn to write, record, and perform. You’ll get an understanding of copyright, intellectual property and be in a better position to market yourself as an independent artist.

Eligibility

Interested applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Over 18 years of age
  • Must be a singer or rapper who is not an established artist
  • Aspiring performer/artist
  • Hungry to break into the music industry
  • Playing an instrument is an added advantage

2D Animation Incubator

Be one of the 15 talented selected animators who will be mentored to develop a 2D kids (pre-teen) Tv series concept and work on an 8 min episode pilot. You’ll work in teams to develop a story, character, storyboard, sound design, pitch and production pipeline.

Eligibility

Interested applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Over 21 years of age
  • Proven ability to draw
  • Experience of using a drawing tablet 
  • A portfolio of your ongoing projects
  • Solid understanding of 2D animation software(Blender, Toonboom, Adobe After effects)

Podcasting Incubator

15 aspiring podcasters will be mentored to develop fresh podcast concepts. Will you be one of them? Get mentorship and training on audience identification and development, editing, building online audiences, and working with brands.

Eligibility

Interested applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Over 21 years of age
  • Unique podcasting idea (in any language)
  • Good communication skills
  • Good interviewing skills
  • Storytelling ability

Meet the Partners

On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) and the Goethe-Institut promote the emerging market of cultural and creative industries in Africa and in the Middle East.

The Goethe-Institut is the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany active worldwide. It promotes the knowledge of the German language abroad and maintains international cultural collaborations.

The project “Jenga CCI – Global Project Cultural and Creative Industries” aims to improve the economic perspectives of cultural and creative actors in Kenya. This is achieved through capacity-building programs and the networking of cultural and creative actors.

CCI is a growing market and pioneer in the business world of tomorrow. It already serves the core sectors of development cooperation in many partner countries. CCI creates jobs and strengthens non-monetary values that contribute to inclusive and sustainable development: innovation and creativity, attractiveness, and perspectives for young people.

In Kenya, the CCI project is positioned under the Sustainable Economic Development Cluster whose projects aim to improve employment and economic situation of jobseekers, employees and enterprises through technical upskilling, technical equipment provision and knowledge sharing of business and legal strategies relevant to individual projects.
