Programming Fundamentals

Course Overview

Students will learn how to create virtual interactive elements, 3D art, principles of good software development, virtual and augmented projects management, and world building in Unity.

This will be taught within two projects over a span of 3 months each.

Course Units Covered:

• Introduction to Object Oriented  Programming  principles

• Introduction to Unity Editor

• Introduction to Creating  interactive elements 

• Introduction to 3D interactive art 

• Principles of Good  software development 

• Project management

• World building in  Unity using probuilder 

• Revisiting 3D game art 

Learning Modality:

• In-person classes at Caxton Campus
• In-class lesson demonstration and personalized review and feedback
• This is a project-based course, therefore students must submit practical work which will be relevant to receive and give feedback

Tools:

• Microsoft Teams 

Requirements:

• Keen interest in video games and computing technology industry and desire to build a career in real-time 3D technology and mobile application development.

Learning Outcomes

The Certificate in Programming Fundamentals for AR and VR seeks to train talented men and women to be exciting, versatile and accomplished professionals. By the end of this course, students will be able to:

• Harness the power of unity and produce industry standard results. 

• They will be able to create their own AR and VR projects and continue their development in this field within different industries.
• Finally, they will have two different projects that they can integrate into their professional portfolio.

Evaluations:

• Class-to-class practical assignments and presentations: 45%
• Final project presentation 30%
• Self-assessment 5%
• Attendance and participation 10%

High School Education

KCSE D (Plain), KCE Division III or equivalent qualification or certificate of experiential Learning or completion of KNQA Level 4
