The 6th annual ADMI Graduation Ceremony was held at Absa Bank Sports Club on 15th October 2021. Due to Covid-19 protocols, only graduating students and faculty attended in person. Parents and the rest of the ADMI community followed the graduation ceremony virtually as we streamed live on our YouTube channel.
As we all gathered on that day, it was not lost on us just how hard the graduating class of 2021 had worked. They persisted in the face of challenges brought about by the pandemic and turned their passion into a profession.
When we changed to online & blended learning, they became masters of adaptation. They trusted us when we assured them that we were ready for them, and now, all their hard work has paid off and they’ve made us proud.
It was with great joy that we celebrated and witnessed the class of 2021 honourably crossover in the creative space as professionals.
Chris Kirwa, the Master of Ceremony, ushered in the graduands for the academic procession. This was then followed by Immaculate Juma and Ciku Munuku’s rendition of the Kenya National Anthem.
Thereafter, the Principal and Head of School, Mr Peter Waiguru proceeded to constitute the congregation and announced the official commencement of the event.
“Today, we graduate 91 diploma and 42 certificate students in various disciplines. These, among many others who are not able to be with us today, are true warriors. They have successfully gone through their studies despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. They are perfect candidates for the future – the uncertain tomorrow. We celebrate their success.” he said.
Second to speak was the 2021 valedictorian, Elizabeth Maleche who delivered a speech on behalf of the class of 2021. She was happy to express her delight and gratitude for the journey that has been.
“When I was asked to speak today I immediately had this one thought, “If I could speak about anything today, I would speak words of gratitude, because in such unpredictable, unprecedented times I’ve learned that gratitude is the only thing that can offer hope.”
So today, I would like to say thank you.”
Elizabeth took time to appreciate different lecturers, students and staff who’ve been of great help to the students. She concluded her speech by thanking the parents.
“So parents, guardians, & sponsors, thank you so much for your endless support. For believing in us enough to send us here semester after semester. Thank you for paying our hostel rent, for financing our trips to klabu and for buying us the equipment we needed to work.”
The Chief Guest Josephine Ndambuki, currently the Chief Manager, Research, Policy, Economic Development & Partnership at Konza City, shared amazing nuggets of wisdom with the lot. She was keen to encourage and motivate them on their impending professional journey.
Founding Director of ADMI Wilfred Kiumi also had an opportunity to congratulate and pass his good wishes on behalf of the board of directors.
The speeches paved the way for amazing performances by some talented members of the ADMI community just before the awarding of the diplomas and certificates by the Deputy Principal and various Heads of Departments.
After a successful event, the principal blessed and commissioned the graduates, now ready for the next phase of their lives.
According to UNESCO, creative industries account for more than 30 million jobs globally, employing more young people aged 15-29 worldwide than any other sector (UNESCO, 2015).
As more young people enter Africa’s labour market, national economies will need to create jobs to meet the demand. Creative industries have the potential to address the urgent need for job creation across the continent.
This year, ADMI is proud to have produced 133 professionally trained creatives who have been prepared to impact the creative industry and make a difference in the world.
Our learn and work model has proven to get 81% of our alumni employed within 1 year of graduation, with 62% of these employed at the time of graduation and 70% securing their first job through ADMI’s networks and partnerships.
Over 90% of our employer partners attest that they prefer working with our graduates. They have observed that they are market-ready and need minimal training. This would not be possible without our remarkable faculty members who ensure that the quality of training is not only practical but digital, value-based, global and transformational.
Students get the mentorship they need from day 1 and parents have reported seeing their sons and daughters changed right before their eyes.
